Some thoughts on over consumption

Some thoughts on over consumption

I’ve been thinking a lot about the power of choice. We use our buying power to build our little worlds, shaping our lives based on our values. With the uptick in conversations around over and under consumption, it seems our identities are wrapped up in our relation to products. Buying our way to a persona.

Social media marketing has become so insidious that without media literacy it’s easy to get lost in the millions of ads disguised as self care (or whatever era you’re currently in).

I used to only look at sustainable fashion in terms of its ethical, environmental and financial impact. But over consuming adds clutter to our headspace. We may get a quick dopamine fix but it’s superficial at best, creates anxiety and self esteem issues at worse.

Working within a slow fashion model allows for both myself as the designer, and you the buyer to be more intentional with what you allow into your space.

With that said, I’d like to thank those of you who have chosen a Genia Evelina garment to add to your wardrobe. It’s my sincerest wish that these pieces bring you joy as well as function.
